Richard Mille began his watch career in the 1970s at the French watch company Finhor. However, jeweler Matra acquired Finhor in 1981, and Richard Mille began to rise to prominence.
He held a managerial position in the Matra Observatory department, controlling the entire tabulation process. However, he left Matra nearly a decade later to join a new watch company, Mauboussin, to help establish the luxury watch market. But Richard Mille wanted to push the boundaries of watchmaking at the time. Therefore, he decided to establish his own brand at the age of fifty, using modern watchmaking techniques.
